Why “Penultimatology”?
It begins with a favorite word. The penultimate thing is the thing just before the last: a sentence, a paragraph, a chapter, a measure of music, a verse, a song, or a period in history.
Eschatology is the study of last things. Penultimatology, then, suggests the study of what precedes them. The exact subject depends upon where one believes the ending lies.
But the name also makes room for something broader. This site is not confined to a single field. It is a place to gather the work of an engineer and lifelong student of systems: explorations of technology, history, music, theology, organizations, and the practical craft of making ideas work.

What this site will become
The collection will grow in stages. Some pieces will be readable essays. Others will be software, technical documentation, research, or files offered for download. Each addition should have a reason to be here—and enough context to remain useful.
