The next-to-last sentence in a paragraph, the next-to-last paragraph in a chapter, or the next-to-last chapter in a book. The next-to-last measure in a musical phrase, the next-to-last verse in a song, or the next-to-last song on an album.
Or the study of the word penultimate—my favorite word, meaning “next-to-last.”
Or the next-to-last period in time. Eschatology is the study of last things, in Christianity ending with the Second Coming of Christ. Penultimatology would therefore be the study of things prior to those that are the subject of eschatology. What those things are depends upon one’s understanding of eschatology.
I intend to discuss my views on Christian eschatology and, by extension, penultimatology. But the main focus here is broader: my views on a variety of subjects, my biography, and documents, software, and other work I would like to share.
